Q5-1. Will the department from which I graduated affect the selection procedures?

A5-1. Anyone who satisfies the LIMS requirements can apply, irrespective of the applicant’s nationality, the department or university the applicant graduated from, or when the applicant graduated. However, to apply for LIMS program, you must pass the entrance examination for the Master’s program at one of the following graduate schools: Graduate School of Medicine (Medical Science Major, Human Health Science Major), Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences; or for the Doctoral Program in Medicine, the entrance examination of the Graduate School of Medicine of Kyoto University.

Q5-2. Is it possible to join the LIMS program after I have started the Master’s Degree or Doctoral (Ph.D.) Degree program?

A5-2. This program provides continuous graduate education as a Program for Leading Graduate Schools, so you cannot join LIMS if you have already started your Degree program. Applicants must be enrolled in the master’s course or four-year Doctoral course as 1st year students when starting the LIMS program.

Q5-3. Do I need to set a specific/concise research theme for the research plan on the LIMS application form?

A5-3. You need to write what kind of research you plan to do when you start at the laboratory you wish to join at your chosen graduate school.

Q5-4. Do I need to submit an official academic transcript as well as a certificate of enrollment?

A5-4. They are not necessary, unless you are a returnee student wishing to be exempted from TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS tests. If you are a returnee, you must submit a Certificate of enrollment in junior high schools, high schools and undergraduate universities (equivalent of the Japanese school system) and official transcripts from those schools and universities.

Q5-5. If I cannot get all the original copies of the necessary documents by the deadline, can I send photocopies instead?

A5-5. Yes this is allowed, but only for applicants graduating from universities abroad. You can send the photocopies first, and then send the original documents to the LIMS office as soon as they arrive.

Q5-6. Can I send my TOEIC results as a web link where you can see my score online?

A5-6. If the Official Score Certificate does not arrive before the application deadline, you can send your online results first, and then your certificate as soon as it arrives.

Q5-7. What is the AO selection, and when will it be?

A5-7. AO selection is an oral and written assessment where applicants will undergo a comprehensive evaluation process according to the admission policy of the LIMS program. Details will be announced to applicants individually, but the AO selection will take place on two days at the beginning of January.

Q5-8. Are past exam papers for AO selection available?

A5-8. Yes they are available on the LIMS homepage. Please go to the “Past examinations” section under “Admissions”.

Q5-9. Can we speak to current LIMS students?

A5-9. Please contact the LIMS office with your questions, and we will forward your queries to the appropriate people. If you would like to visit LIMS to observe program lectures, let us know when you would like to come and we can let you know the available lectures.
